Miljenka Grdjan

Graduated and master’s degree in singing at the Academy of Music in Zagreb in the class of prof. Snježane Bujanović – Stanislav. She trained with renowned opera vocal artists (Eva Marton, Marijana Lipovšek, Mariella Devia). She made her debut at the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb with the role of Jelena in the opera Nikola Šubić Zrinjski Ivana pl. Rabbit. She performed over thirty soprano main opera roles in theaters (Susanna, Mimi, Pamina, Marie, Ksenija, Barica, Lizinka, Đula, Suor Angelica, Prva dama, Regina, Micaela, Nannete, Blondchen, Gilda, Maruša, Rosina, Violetta Valery , Criside, Zorka, Erszebet …). She performed with many distinguished conductors, for example Nikša Bareza, Loris Voltolini, Vjekoslav Šutej, Ivo Lipanović, Thomas Conlin, Falun Francis, Kazushi Ono Robert Houlihau… Her interpretation of Zajčev’s Jelena and Puccini’s Cio-Cio San was nominated for the Croatian Actors’ Award. For her rich artistic work, she was awarded with awards and recognitions: Marijana Radev Award for the role of Marie in the opera La Fille du Regiment by Gaetano Donizetti. Award of the Society of University Teachers and Scientists for the role of Cio-Cio San in the opera Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini. Award Prešernov Sklad for the performance of Vampirabila in Cankarjevo dom, Slovenia. Acknowledgment of the City of Varaždin for the recording of sound carriers from the songs of Ivan Padovac.

In cooperation with HRT, she made numerous recordings, of which the following stand out: M. Kelemen: Greetings to the world with the Symphony Orchestra and conductor N. Schubert: Lazarus, the role of Jemina with the Symphony orchestra – conductor N. Bareza (first performance in Croatia at KDVL) In his rich singing opus, he counts anniversary performances, premieres, performances at recognized festivals in our country and around the world. Visiting: Serbia, Austria, Italy, Hungary, Canada, Brazil. Miljenka Grđan teaches as a full professor at the Singing Department for the courses Singing and Chamber Music at the Academy of Music in Zagreb. In her previous teaching work, she has proven herself as a very high-quality pedagogue, which is confirmed by the successes of her students at international singing competitions and successful performances at artistic projects. . Her students are winners of the Rector’s Award, and the graduates profile themselves as excellent soloists in our theaters, vocal pedagogues, and excellent choristers in theater ensembles. He is a permanent member of the committee at international competitions, leads artistic research projects at the Academy of Music in Zagreb, international singing seminars for the training of young artists and pedagogues.
